Twitter may be considered President Donald Trump’s domain, but it is actually his predecessor who appears to be better at leveraging the platform — and with less effort.
Former President Barack Obama’s tweet reacting to racist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August was the most-liked tweet of 2017 and in Twitter history, according to Twitter’s year-in-review.
The tweet, sent from Obama’s personal @BarackObama account, quotes Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion…”
Trump was the year’s most tweeted-about world leader and most frequently mentioned US elected official, but none of his individual tweets broke through among the most-liked or most-retweeted messages.
Part of what could explain Obama’s single-tweet reach is that he has really picked his moments to send messages, and those messages have been few and far between.
Trump takes a different approach. His Twitter activity is a constant stream of content that runs the gamut, making it harder for a single tweet to stand out or capture attention for an extended period of time.
It’s also worth noting that Obama’s personal account, @BarackObama, has 97.6 million followers, more than Trump’s @RealDonaldTrump’s 44.1 million.
Trump may use Twitter more often, but Obama uses it more wisely.

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson predicts there will be at least 1 billion 5G subscriptions in 2023.
5G stands for fifth-generation network technology.
It’s expected to transform our digital lives. It will increase download speeds that are around 100 times faster than today’s cellular connections and 10 times faster than our speediest home broadband service.
It’s also expected to accelerate new technologies like augmented reality, help self-driving cars send time-critical messages to one another, and link to the network everything from pollution sensors to health monitors.
The technology is expected to be first deployed in dense urban areas. Ericsson said more than 20 percent of the world’s population will have access to 5G by the end of 2023. Early 5G deployments are expected in several markets, including the US, South Korea, Japan and China.
5G networks are expected to arrive in 2019. Chipmaker Qualcomm has also said 5G will come to your phone the same year.
Ericsson also said in its semi-annual report that demand for mobile data in general is surging. It expects 110 Exabyte of data per month to travel over mobile networks by 2023. This equals about 5.5 million years of streaming HD video each month. North America is leading the way with the highest average monthly usage, exceeding 7GB of data a month by the end of 2017.
